My name is Hugo Torres, and I am honored to serve as President of the San Mateo County Board of Education and Principal of Voices Flagship: College-Bound Language Academy, where I strive to ensure all students, especially those from underserved communities, receive the education and support they need to thrive. My mission is to create a more equitable and inclusive education system that empowers every child, regardless of background, to reach their full potential.

As a leader, I am committed to advancing opportunity, justice, and community. Whether on the County Board of Education or as an Educational Administrator, I’ve advocated for policies that support marginalized students, especially students of color and their families. I believe education is a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty and open doors to success. I am determined to ensure public education remains a vehicle for social mobility.

As a Delegate, I will bring my passion for equity and justice to the table. My experience in both public education and nonprofit work gives me a unique perspective on how policies can either support or hinder our most vulnerable communities. I will advocate for policies that improve education funding, increase healthcare access, protect workers' rights, and address the climate crisis while ensuring the voices of marginalized communities are heard.

I am particularly focused on issues that affect working families, such as affordable housing, quality healthcare, and expanded vocational education opportunities. My work in San Mateo County has shown how these issues are deeply interconnected. By supporting policies that enhance access to essential services and reduce systemic inequalities, we can create a fairer, more prosperous society for all.

As a lifelong Democrat, I am committed to upholding our party's core values of equity, social justice, and human rights. I believe the Democratic Party is the force for the change our state and country need, and I am eager to contribute to that vision as a delegate. My goal is to ensure that our party continues to champion those who have been historically underserved and underrepresented.
