I am Paul Bocanegra, a resident of Redwood City where I live with my wife Carolyn and our puppies. I am honored to be a part of this slate, and this party who stands for every person who lives amongst us. I am proudly running in Assembly District 21. I am a committed member from our community that believes in equity, and equality for all. As a son of immigrant farm laborers who believed in the American dream, pursued the American dream and passed on the American dream to myself and siblings, I will work hard to create and continue passing on these dreams to other community members, regardless of age, race, religion, or political party. My aim is to work with everyone to create a more equitable society for all to benefit from.

My commitment to our county as a Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commissioner for five years has been a blessing. I have worked and collaborated with community coalitions to improve conditions, educational programming, and rehabilitative programming for all youth that have made mistakes. I have also advocated for an improved foster system to better assist our foster youth, I strongly advocate and support rent control in our county, strengthening immigrant rights, and I worked to create independent civilian oversight, which aims to partner with the Sheriff’s Department to ensure all community members are treated fairly, and I advocate for our homeless youth, who attend our educational institutions from their vehicles. To reinforce my community commitment, I cofounded a 501 C3 ReEvolution where I am the Youth Outreach Manager where I work to empower our youth through mentorship, sharing lived experiences and connecting youth to the resources that they will need to become responsible and successful community members.

I have also had the pleasure of being a California State Delegate for our Senator. In this capacity, I have also used my voice to advocate for policies and legislation that help build equity, protect the rights of the people, and reinforce environmental policies that protect our coasts and county wildlife spaces. I believe in clean energy, and doing more to support our small businesses, along with creating more programs that help low income families purchase homes in our county.
