meet Uma Krishan
I am an activist with a STEM background, passionate about empowering my community, and I am seeking re-election as an ADEM Delegate. Raised in Burlingame and a proud product of its public school system, my activism was shaped here. The 2016 elections inspired my belief that young people must drive change. Since then, I’ve been elected as an ADEM Delegate twice—in 2019 as an undergrad and again in 2023.
I earned my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in Computer Science and Public Policy and am now pursuing a Master’s in Data Science, also at Berkeley. While my expertise lies in tech and data, my passion is activism, particularly mobilizing young people and the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
My political work spans local and national efforts. As an undergrad, I focused on voter registration and served as a 2018 Swing Left Fellow, helping flip the House. Since 2020, I’ve been part of South Asians for Biden/Harris, leading youth efforts and operations in Pennsylvania, including volunteer mobilization and running phone banks. I’ve served on the Board of the Peninsula Young Dems for four years and worked with the California Democratic Party on the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee and as a member of the AAPI Caucus.
The accomplishment I’m most proud of is co-founding the San Mateo County (SMC) AAPI Alliance, where I serve as President. As an Indian-American, I sought to address the underrepresentation of AAPI voices in local politics. The Alliance has organized fundraisers, partnered with SMC Democrats on voter registration, supported endorsed candidates through donations and canvassing, and built a vital AAPI coalition in the county. A standout moment was coordinating with the Harris campaign to sponsor the 2024 AANHPI GOTV weekend, where our delegation became one of the largest canvassing teams for the Harris-Walz ticket in Las Vegas.
As a Gen-Z activist, daughter of immigrants, and woman of color, I seek your vote to represent a community I love. This cycle, I am running for re-election as an ADEM Delegate and for a position on the party’s Executive Board. My slate, Dems United for Working Families, champions climate action, workers’ rights, affordable housing, healthcare and childcare for all, reproductive freedom, and fully funded education. I hope to earn your support and that of my fellow slate members.
